Well, we survived Hippocamp - the night itself was very nice and relaxed, I met loads of interesting folks, great variety of tunes from the Hippocrowd and I met several interesting music producers and the like - all good :) Hopefully we should see some of that material on AcidTV soon.
My new R2 visuals seemed to go down well too so in all could be deemed a success :)
However my car did get broken into overnight but hey, welcome to Manchester!
Fun with Ebay part 347:
[warning - rant!]
Ok so I've been selling DVDs on Ebay for how long? 2-3 years now and have *hundreds* of positive feedbacks - so why is it that all of a sudden Ebay seem to think I'm not the rights holder for the DVDs.
It seems that someone has claimed to be the Rights Owner for my DVDs and asked for one of my listings to be removed (only the one mind). Ebay refuse to accept that I'm the actual rights owner and there seem to be precious few mechanisms to protect a legitimate seller who is the rights owner for what they sell - all I get from the help staff is a link to the same patronising copyright tutorial explaining that you're not allowed to list pirate video games.
Ebay implement a scheme called "VeRO" (Verified Rights Owner) whereby to join you fax a form off to Ebay notifying them of a claimed infringement. Whilst good in principle it's interesting to note that in all their help pages there is no mention of how to sign up for this VeRO programme unless your have a gripe with an existing ebay item.
So basically as the actual rights owner I can't join the programme unless I find an item which is infringing my copyright and then fax off the form, yet someone can fax it off can have my listings removed whilst blatantly having no claim on the intellectual property. The infringement form has lots of "I do solemnly declare" and "in accordance with English law" style lingo but exactly how serious the implications are for telling porkies on it is still up for debate - I guess we'll find when I get in contact with the alleged copyright holder who requested my listings removed ;)
Fortunately, according to their help pages it looks like Ebay will actually help me make contact with the (alleged) rights owner so I can discuss my case with them [ahem]).
It wouldn't be so ridiculous if the DVD didn't blatantly have my name in the credits! I suppose it helps explain why the other visuals sellers on Ebay have all gradually gone elsewhere...maybe it's time to move on and spend the marketing budget elsewhere.
[/rant]
on the upside my new laptop should be here in the next couple of days and I think I've got a gig next weds at Hippocamp in manchester which will be the first outing for some of the new material I've been working on over the last few months.
peas out.
